Five Reasons Why North Indians Will Fall Madly In Love With Dulquer Salmaan

Dulquer Salmaan, the talented, scorching hot son of the South Indian cinema icon, Mammooty, has already followed his father’s footsteps and conquered the South with award-winning films like Ustad Hotel, Bangalore Days and Charlie. The actor has now set his sights on Bollywood and has two major projects in the pipeline: Karwaan opposite Irrfan Khan that’ll be released later this year and The Zoya Factor, a film based on the best-selling novel, starring Sonam Kapoor.

These are the five reasons why I suspect Dulquer Salmaan will join the ranks of Kamal Hassan and R. Madhavan and become the Next Big Thing to come out of the South:

1.  The man can act

His plethora of acting awards are a testament to the fact that, like most South Indian film stars, Dulquer Salmaan can act.

2.  He picks his projects wisely

Dulquer’s first film got him a Filmfare Award while his sophomore effort, Ustad Hotel, was so good that it received three National Film Awards! He also surrounds himself with the right people. For instance, he chose filmmaking legend, Mani Ratnam (OK Kanmani) to break into Kollywood and acting legend, Irrfan Khan, to break into Bollywood. As the adage goes, “you are the company you keep.”

3. His sexy a$$ baritone voice…

will leave you weak at the knees.

Listen but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

4.  He’s not your average star kid

Unlike Bollywood, the concept of “star kids” doesn’t really exist in South India. As far as their film industries are concerned, just because you’re the son and daughter of whomever does not guarantee you a foot in the door. Dulquer Salmaan was actually dissuaded from pursuing a career in acting by his parents and fought tooth and nail to prove them and the South Indian film industries wrong.

5.  His old world charm

Dulquer Salmaan’s well-coiffed look, humility, reserved nature- his whole aura – is more akin to yesteryear stars like Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar than his egoistic, selfie-loving contemporaries.

“I put a spell on you,
Cause you’re mine.”
