When Dr. Paul Melchert, a gay Minneapolis-based pediatrician who is also a father of twins, received word that Bollywood personality, Karan Johar, recently became a father of twins, he made the following statement:
“I sincerely wish him all the best. Raising children with my husband of eleven years was the best decision I’ve ever made. Each day I spend with them is a blessing. In response to those who might be skeptical of Johar’s decision to raise children, I just want to say that the myriad of scientific studies that have been conducted in the past few decades consistently show that children raised by non-heterosexual parents turn out to be healthy, well-adjusted people.”
Dr. Melchert, MD and his husband, James, are longtime advocates for LGBT rights in their home state of Minnesota.
A Youtube video of Melchert speaking at a press conference about the health of children raised in same-sex parent families went viral a few years ago. The video featured the adorable antics of his son, Emmett, who kept interrupting his father’s speech by grabbing everything within reach and displaying affection towards his father.
Popular news website, Buzzfeed, posted an article that talks about Melchert’s speech and said video.
